If you can't say anything nice...

...say nothing at all.

I wrote a long post about my godmother but I'll save it. She died last week and we buried her Friday. Next week will be ten years since my mother died. So... I'm laying low. Mellowing out, thinking things through.

So, um, for now I've got nothing. I'll be back in a few days with my tales of mohair mishaps (mohair and honey don't mix, y'all), and other stuff.

I got nothin'

No new FO's- though I do have a few finished a while back that I haven't photographed. Truth be told, I haven't done much knitting in the past few days besides the ridiculously pink hat for Cheb made from stash/swap yarn.

So... since I've got nothing else...

Two feet and rising

Once it stopped snowing sideways, I thought it safe to go outside. The snow is kinda deep.

Yep. Up to my knees. Good thing I'm wearing industrial strength jeans. Off to the beach- because where else would you go in a snowstorm?

Snowbunny

What fun. Hey, let's make a snow angel!

Snowangel

Yeah! Awesome!! What the-? OMG LOOK OUT!!! The birds! The biiiiiirds! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE, CHEBURASHKA!!!

The_birds

Wow. I hope she made it.

hello, it's me

You know that I'd be with you if I could...

Hi. Regular readers know that I tend to disappear every once in a while (or if I ever need a reason to smile*), and usually I come back with a tale of woe. Not this time. I've actually been busy because I've been having fun. Shocking, I know.

The fun started Friday when my sister watched Cheb while I went to my friend's new apartment in Harlem. There was much bourbon, and I haven't been out drinking in a while. And I have never had bourbon in my entire drinkin' life. Recipe for disaster, right? Surprisingly, not. I was happily drunk, despite drinking several shots of vodka as well. I also had lots of water and nibbly things (I vaguely remember attacking a plate of mystery meat), and stuck to seltzer before heading out. Fun. There are photos- probably all over the Internets by now.

On Saturday I made it (barely) to the First Saturday thingy at the Brooklyn Museum. I think I was still a little drunk, and more than a little tired. But I met up with some friends (and even someone I went to junior high school with) and boogied down to 80's music. On Sunday Cheb went to a party at her friend's house, and I went into a long overdue coma. And got some knitting done.

Monday. Ah, Monday. I went to the second part of the psychological interview, and left feeling completely stripped nekkid. My whole life story laid bare to a stranger (and I tell you this on my blog- i just blew my own mind). I was so weirded out when I left, I nearly asked the guy in the elevator with me for one of his Marlboros. I don't smoke, people. The last part of the process is the investigation and really, what more is there to know about me? Jeez.

I've been home with a sick Cheb; she's sportin' a fever of 103. Which is not unusual for her- since she was a baby it has always been either no fever or 103 degrees. It freaked me out at first, but now it is her standard "I'm not well" temperature. It barely slows her down. Me? I'd be in the ER.

I took some pics of the two pairs of Koigu socks I completed, but the pics suck. Also, I'm making progress of the cabled riding jacket, but now it looks like I may not have enough yarn. Curses! In the meantime, say hi to Peony:

All growed up.

*guess what song I'm listening to?

The best friggin' pbj sammich ever

That's what I just had.

So, yeah, I've mentioned to some folks in email that YEAH!! I have a keyboard (taken from my sister after setting up her new computer) and I'm back on the Internet block. Kinda. See, it's also been a crazy week. An interview a day, and TWO tomorrow. I turned down one position, because the benefits suck and they pay crap.

Right now I'm only able to type this thanks to the power and the glory of pb&j sammiches. I last ate 12 hours ago; I left Cheb at my sister's house while I went way the hell out to Queens to take a psych exam for a position that I already turned down. Apparently they're still interested, and nothing better's cropped up, so I think I may go with it. Rachael, you know what I'm talking about. I won't even go into what I went through trying to get there- at 5am certain trains don't run and you don't find that out until you've been standing on an empty platform for 20 minutes. And also- the only other people on the train at that hour are MTA staff and DHL employees.

Anyway, I make it to Queens half an hour late and practically pounce on the guy with the coffee cart in front of the subway. We had a disagreement over whether that giant pastry is called a "coffee roll" or a "cinnamon roll." Just hand it over, dude, and nobody gets hurt. For the next 6 hours I fill out so many questionnaires my wrist hurts and then I take two written psych exams of over 300 questions each. Oh, and I didn't get much sleep last night, so I'm kinda goofy at this point. I seriously considered putting down the wildest possible answers: "Why yes, I do think someone is trying to poison me. Yes, sometimes I dream about things so terrible I can't share it with anyone." At one point we were asked to draw a picture* of a person, and I drew a picture of the coffee cart guy. With his cart. Filled with coffee rolls. I'll be very surprised if I get called back.

I went back to my sister's feeling like I'd just had a night of hard drinking. I was tired and goofy and weaving down the street. So tired I forgot to eat, or even ask for food. and then we left and Cheb fell asleep on me on the train and I came home and it was truly peanut butter jelly time. Even though I could barely lift the bread. Tomorrow is a lighter schedule, even with two interviews, and another on Monday and then I can slow it down a bit.

*BTW, I'm not telling anything that isn't common knowledge.
