Fear Factor: Knitter's version

The challenge: frog three rows of the Print o'the Wave shawl while riding on a crowded subway. It can be done, people, but I don't recommend it. Too much stress for early in the morning.

The Icarus shawl is done, and as usual I'll probably take longer to block it than I took to knit it. Before starting Icarus, I began Print o'the Wave but put it down because the tiny yarn was too fiddly for the subway. I don't have anything else to knit, so I picked it up again today. I really, really need a new project. I'm bored with all the books and magazines I own. What's new and exciting out there?

Also: over the weekend I bumped my ass off. I took Cheb on her very first bumper car ride on the Eldorado in Coney Island, which seemed much smaller than I remember. I think she was mildly shocked at how brutal I am behind the wheel. We also blew way too much money on Skee-Ball. I forgot how much fun that is.

I'm really going to miss the old Coney.

Whistle while you work

I work in a three-person office. One is out of the country, one is out running an errand, and what am I doing? Whistling through my nose.

Maybe it's allergies or something, but I was a little stuffy today and now I can whistle through one nostril. I'm trying out different tunes. Any requests?

Have a great long weekend, y'all.

YEEE-HAW!

I found it!! I found the rest of the shawl yarn!

I thought that there was more, but I wasn't sure. I vaguely remembered the yarn breaking while using the yarn winder, and making two separate cakes of yarn. I was practically weepy yesterday, struggling to work out how I'd end the shawl without using the last chart. I stuck it in a drawer, thinking I'd end up frogging the whole damn thing, and this morning- totally by chance- I opened another drawer and there was an entire half skein. BOO-YAH!!

I was so happy, I sang the hallelujah chorus while dancing with the yarn. Cheb was so annoyed with me she hit me in the head with a skein of Socks That Rock.

And of course, I left the pattern at home and couldn't work on it on my morning subway commute. But who cares: I can finish it!! I did mention this is a cashmere blend, right? So you understand why I'm so happy.

Orange Alert

Every day this week, sometimes in different stations, I've seen an orange sitting on the subway tracks. Someone needs to get a better grip on his or her fruit.

I'm wondering if I should report this- you know, if you see something, say something.

I'm done to the last section of my Icarus shawl. The one y'all didn't know I was working on because 'my computer is still dead. I'm worried that I don't have enough yarn: I bought it on eBay a couple of years ago, so if I don't have enough, that's that. Keep your needles crossed.

Have a great weekend. I'm going to see that movie about a green ogre. I have no choice.

The Dead Computer Sketch

Around here, posts are generally few and far between. Now they're going to get fewier: my computer has ceased to be. It is an ex-computer. It's expired and gone to meet its maker.

And I'm not that good about backing up my files, so... it sucks. A new one is not in the budget right now, so I'll have to rely on stealth posts from work. Like right now. Even though the person I work with reads this blog, I'll still pretend I'm working and not blogging.

So. That's that. See ya when I can.
