Last night, my daughter showed me her social studies textbook. There were several pages devoted to the World Trade Center, and she asked me, is that what it looked like? Then she said, too bad I never got to see it.
Something clicked. She'll never get to see that part of the city of her birth. A part that I took for granted, that I had visited several times by the time I was her age. It was just so odd to realize that.
That she wouldn't have the opportunity to be amazed by the lobby. By the height of the buildings. By the view from the observation deck, after being huddled in a speeding elevator with a chattering group of students.
She was two years old when the buildings came down. To her, it's just a photo in a book.

For all the times I've been to NYC, I never got to see them in person. I feel sad about that. It's such a shame.

Given our proximity to that part of Manhattan and the fact that our pediatrician and dentist are within spitting distance of the WTC, Noah spent a lot of time there, but as he was only four when it all happened, he has only the vaguest memories of it. He attended his first concert there (Los Van Van, Los Lobos and David Sanchez in June of 2000), ate his first Krispy Kreme donut there, and so on, but when we talked about it today, he said his only real memory of it is of the day the towers came down. To me, that's a crying shame. Sigh. It was great to see you and Cheb last weekend. We LOVE seeing you guys!

It's so odd to me now to see them in a movie and realize that something so monumental and solid could have gone so quickly.

I came to the same realization yesterday also. I was three months pregnant when it happened and it was kind of difficult trying to explained what happend to a six year old.

I can't believe it has been that long already. Time has flown by. We were having a where were you when moment at the dinner table the other night regarding the WTC, sometimes it's good to have a moment to reflect isn't it?
